Charles William Rossel

He was born on April 27, 1929, to Dr. Carl Grey Rossel and Laura Gibbs Rossel in Columbus, OH. His parents are deceased.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gibbs Rossel, nephew, Donald L. Rossel and son-in-law, James Alan Hall. “Charlie” or “Chuck” is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Patricia (Scheiderer) Rossel, son, Robert Bruce (Nancy Henderson) Rossel, daughters Nancy Leigh (Ted) King and Deborah Lynn (Curtis) Lindeman; grandchildren Nathaniel (Kelsy Van Horn) Rossel, Mariah Rossel, Justin King, Lauren King, Christopher Hall, Catherine (Charles) Redifer; and great-grandchildren Lillian Rossel, Layla Rossel and James Redifer and a nephew, Richard C. Rossel.

Dr. Rossel was a 1947 graduate of Grandview Heights High School where he was honored as Distinguished Alumnus in 2011. He attended Ohio State University where he earned his B.A. and M.D. degrees. Following medical school, he interned and had a year of general surgery residency followed by service in the United States Air Force as a Major and Flight Surgeon. Upon his discharge he returned to OSU for a 4-year residency in Neurological Surgery and received his Master of Medical Science degree. He then joined Neurological Associates where he practiced for 50 years. Each of his patients was very special to him and he loved his chosen career. He was devoted to his family and was very proud of each and every one of them. Family vacations and time spent water skiing, snow skiing, or taking trips in his Beechcraft Bonanza were his ways of relaxing when he wasn’t doing surgery. He also did a lot of woodworking including cradles for grandchildren, doll houses, rocking horses, and many other beautiful collector pieces. Another hobby was building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Westerville Model Aeronautics Association. Charles was a member of the American Beechcraft Bonanza Society. He and Patty joined other members in “island hopping” flights which took them to most of the islands in the Atlantic as far south as Grenada. The two of them had an outstanding trip to the Galapagos Islands. Perhaps the trip in a plane which he enjoyed most was flying to London on the Concord and returning on the QEII. Dr. Rossel was a member of the Columbus Academy of Medicine, American College of Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and The Harvey Cushing Society. Since his retirement he enjoyed spending the winters at the Rossel condo on Siesta Key in Sarasota Florida.

The calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 31st at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Road, Dublin, Ohio from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. followed by a Funeral Service.
