

A funeral service for Charlotte (Parlet) Powell, 80 of Newark, will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
Charlotte was born in St. Louisville, Ohio on November 1, 1931 to the late Ellis and Ruth (Warrington) Parlet. She passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on December 20, 2011.
Charlotte was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1949. She was an avid bowler; past president of the Friday Night Classic League for 32 years; and was the first woman in Licking County to bowl a 700 series (717). She also enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and going to the casinos. She was a member of the Newark Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #387, Newark Moose Lodge and the Licking County Humane Society and her dear Dairy Bar Group. She was employed at E.T. Ruggs, owned and operated Powell’s Grocery Store in Brownsville, Ohio and retired from Pitts Little Market.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas (Milo) Powell, whom she married on May 21, 1949; Sons, Roger (Sue) Powell of Fallsburg, Philip Mick (Brenda) Powell of Glenford; daughter, Robin (Larry) Riel of Utica; grandchildren, Carrie Rassmussan, Terry Powell, Wesley Wheeler, Katie Mitchell, Amista Buxton and Nicole Powell; great grandchildren, Austin Buxton, Kierstin Buxton, Kurtis Rassmussan and Kendall Riel; sisters-in-law, Janie Riffle of Kentucky, Sharron Powell of Florida; brother-in-law, Lloyd Varner of Mt. Vernon; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved spoiled pets, Scooter, Pepper and Barney.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Parlet and Philip Parlet.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charlotte to Hospice of Central Ohio or the Licking County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The Newark Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will provide a service at 5:45 PM.
The Powell family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio, Dr. Jones and staff, and Dr. Winterhalter and staff, for all of the love and care that was provided to Charlotte in her time of need.
