

Clarence Michael (Mike) Tarr Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2020 in Westerville, Ohio. Mike was born July 25, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois to Clarence and Ethel (Grieme) Tarr. Following his graduation from Springfield High School, Class of 1948, he enrolled at Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy where he earned a bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Mike married Gay Francine Tarr in 1952 and together they had three sons; Jerry, John, and Jeff.
Mike worked for Armco Steel (AK Steel) in Kansas City, Missouri for most of his career before retiring in 1989. Mike was a long-time member of Raytown Masonic Lodge #391 and Ararat Shrine Temple. Mike was also a very active Leader in Boy Scouts of America Troop #469 in Raytown, Missouri. After retirement Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife Gay around the country along with pursuing his family genealogy. As a result of his efforts he became a member of The Mayflower Society. Mike was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, as well as Missouri Tigers Football and Basketball. Mike loved the outdoors and spent time golfing and fishing. Mike and Gay also bowled for many years. However, Mike's real passion was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren whom he adored.
Mike was preceded in death by his loving wife Gay Francine Tarr on April 7, 2020, his parents, sister Clarissa Turner and great-grandsons: Jeffery and Tyler Jordan. He is survived by sons: Jerry and Diana Tarr of Westerville, OH, John and Janet Tarr of Cuba, MO, Jeff and Cindy Tarr of Emporia, KS; grandchildren: Jeremy and Alison Jordan, Dusty and Beth Jordan, Magan Tarr, Jessica Tarr, Heather and Yajie Yu, Joshua Tarr; great-grandchildren: Nicole Jordan, Carley Jordan, Andrew Griswold, Beau Jordan, Olivia Jordan.
A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children (2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607)
