A sympathy card was purchased for the family of Dale Alan Berkhouse.

Dale will truly be missed by all at HP Lanes!  We are so sorry for your loss.  You have been in our thoughts and prayers continually.  We hope you take comfort in knowing what a positive impact he had on people.   He was truly a fun, positive and charismatic man.

It has also been a long time since I've hung out with Berk, but the memories in my mind are as clear as yesterday. Starting when a bunch of high school kids/graduates had a party at Darrells house, during the day. That is, until Darrells mom showed up. As she was trying to get into her door, and we were all filing out, she must have bumped into someone and said, "EXCUSE ME!" So, right on cue, didn't miss a beat, our Dale shouts , "why, did you fart??" And at that exact moment, I thought she was going to kill us all. Instead, she asked who had said that and he came clean. I couldn't believe it. She then used ninja moves to smack him across the face. I think that was my first concrete memory of Mr. Dale Berkhouse. Classic. Then, the next time was Dale's 22nd birthday at Black Forest Inn(might have been named something else at that time) on campus, when the birthday boy decided that to formally celebrate this monumental occasion, he should have 22 flaming shots in front of the entire bar. By the 3rd or 4th one, you guessed it, his face was on fire. Thank God, only his facial hair really went up in flames and he was able to put it out, by smacking his face manically, although the entire bar was ready to douse it with beers. Classic. I think the last great memory of Dale was when he took me to the Joe Walsh concert at Vets Memorial and we both sang every song at the top of our lungs, and by then, I knew that I had been in the company of greatness, but that doesn't really encompass it all. When he loved, he didn't second guess it. And when he played, or studied or worked, it was the same, The one thing, I really know for sure was that he was NEVER an ordinary, average guy. R.I.P. my friend.

It's been a long time - long enough that my teenage kids did not recognize the name on the screen when they found me bawling on the couch.  But so many memories!  Playing baseball, football, basketball, soccer, cops & robbers, guns, kick the can & I Spy (thanks Stephen!), Monopoly, Risk, cards, and the list goes on and on and on and on.  Childhood on Longview Avenue would not have been the same without your smile, energy, pleasant disposition, and companionship.  I had often thought we might get caught up again on one of my trips back to Columbus, and now it pains me I can't make it back to pay my respects.  Dale, you will be missed!  Your mom, Pam, Beth, Don, and your wife & children are in my family's thoughts & prayers. The world won't be the same without you!

our hearts in Pittsburgh go out to our family in Ohio on the loss of Dale.  Always a smile.  Always active.  Loved his family and friends.  A wonderful person that was taken much to young. That had accomplished so much and had so much more to do and live for.  He will be missed by all that knew him.  I will miss seeing his posts.  I will miss his comments on how I spoil my girls. Berky, you will be greatly missed by the Bell family.  You were part of this family.  Loved the years that I would wake up on Sat mornings and find 5-7 of you boys asleep in our family room downstairs, you, Moose, Smock, Glenn, Bill, Butch, Steve Black or whoever happened to be out with you guys and did not want to go home.  You and I talked about me fixing you guys chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast not too long ago.  I had planned to get as many of you together as could make it, some Saturday and fix chocolate chip pancakes for the good  old days.  Just so sorry I can't fix you chocolate chip pancakes again.  I will miss you so much, you were like an adopted son to Roger and I and we loved you.

Not only did Dale teach me how to drive, how to putt-putt, and how to properly engage in a food fight, he taught me to laugh, he taught me how to enjoy every moment, and he taught me about true friendship.  I miss this wonderful, amazing man.

bucket nights will never be the same for me, Moose, Ron, Glen & ED, were really going going to miss you !! and all that damn wisdom you had !!,  thank you for making a little part of my life a wonderful and fun one, and know this ,I will never forget about you until I see you again Bub !!  Bill

To the Berkhouse family, no words can cover all the memories I had growing up with Dale in my life. Playing kick the can, "I Spy" on the train set up every Christmas season, to listening to records in the front room of your house. I know Dale will look down on all of us with his smile. My family is so sorry for your loss. Take some peace in knowing so many were touched and influenced by Dale. He will be missed by all. Sending our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow. I know he is wearing scarlet and grey and smiling big this morning.
