Daniel Joseph Kerscher, age 74 of Upper Arlington, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019. Dan was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Erwin and Clara Kerscher. Dan graduated from St. Charles, Class of 1963. Dan was a two-time graduate of Ohio State - after receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1967, he went on to earn a law degree in 1970. Dan was a partner at both the Moritz, McClure, Hughes and Kerscher and, later, Baker and Hostetler law firms before moving on to become general counsel at Casto, where he spent over 13 years before retiring in 2004. As a lawyer, he had high standards of excellence and unshakable integrity, and sought to develop those qualities in others through mentoring and supporting the younger lawyers he worked with. Dan was an unassuming man who found joy in contributing to the lives of others. He was an active member of both St. Peter and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Churches, serving on Parish Councils and Leadership Committees, and helping to create and nurture many programs at both parishes. He also gave time to numerous civic and volunteer organizations including Big Brothers and Voice Corp. Family, friends, and faith are the three words that most defined Dan. He was generous, brilliant, humble, and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing, reading, watching OSU football, hosting his famous "garbage parties", and traveling with friends. Most of all, Dan relished being Dad and Papa - spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. There were water fights, card games, lots of jokes, and, ever the wordsmith, a personalized, humorous, rendition of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" which he wrote for the kids every year. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Mary Ann Kerscher; loving children, David (Linda) Kerscher, Marci (Bill) Peebles, Mollie (Bart) Labeda; grandchildren, Daniel and Evan Kerscher, Nick and Zack Peebles, and Alex and Ben Labeda; siblings, Janice (Dick) Merrick, Ken (Babs) Kerscher, Joann Kinzelman, Marilyn Sweeney, and Nancy (George) Parsley; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2019 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. (The guest of honor never liked to wear a suit, and his family invites you to leave yours at home in his honor.) Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 386 Buttles Ave. Private family inurnment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kobacker House, c/o OhioHealth Foundation, P.O. Box 60001, Columbus, Ohio 43272-9802. A gift of organ donation was made for Parkinson's research upon Dan's passing.
