Daniel James Powell

Dr. Daniel J. Powell, Jr., age 83, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at his home in Columbus, Oh after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 14, 1934 in Columbus, Mississippi.

Preceded in death by his parents Mattie B. Powell and Daniel J. Powell, Sr. Survived by his wife Esta, daughter Perri, sons Mathew and Andrew, stepson Alex, stepdaughter Dahri, grandchildren Darien, Sparkle, Jamisha, Andrew, Octavia, Debonair and Dasia and 5 great grandchildren.

Dr. Powell received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1979. Always compassionate for those with mental illness, Dr. Powell dedicated his life working at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare for almost 40 years where he was loved and respected by patients and staff. In addition to his selfless devotion to others, Dr. Powell was a passionate OSU Buckeyes fan and enthusiastic practitioner of Thai Chi.

A celebration of his life will be held on March 10, 2018 in Columbus, Mississippi where his ashes will be laid to rest next to his Mother.
