Darrell R. Shepard

Darrell R. Shepard, age 73, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 26, 2015. He was born August 14, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Inez (Wiedeman) and John C. Shepard Jr.; also preceded in death by his sister Carmen Shepard Longman. Darrell earned a B.A. and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Nebraska; a B.D. from Lexington Theological Seminary and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law. He was a member of Phi Beta Kapa and Lambda Chi Alpha. Darrell served as Chairman of the Department of Philosophy at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas before pursuing a career in law. He frequently appeared before the Ohio Supreme Court, and has been a part of many cases that have helped shape current Workers' Compensation laws. He retired as a senior partner with Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Barbara Shepard; sons, John Shepard III (Jana) and Kip Shepard (Elisa); stepchildren, Joyce Coppock and Brent Coppock (Kathy); grandchildren, Elissa, John IV, Ben, Robin, Mitch, Megan, Shane, Jordan and Ellie; nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Nelda Blackford (Bill Combs). Private cremation services entrusted to Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH 43229.
