Darvis was born in Whittemore, Michigan, to the late Osman E. And Mildred I. Ostrander, and in 1943, the family moved to East Tawas, Michigan, where his later wife, Jean and her family, lived across the street. Darvis graduated from East Tawas High School in 1951 and Ferris College in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1958. Darvis also served in the U.S. Army, stationed two years after the Korean War from 1954-1956. In 1959 the family moved to Ohio where he established his career in sales and owned and operated Columbus Drywall and Insulation. He retired at the age of 80.
Family was everything to Darvis which included friends. In his twenties he and his father purchased property in Michigan, "The Hunting Camp", where everyone could gather to enjoy nature and outdoor activities year round. He was a master hunter, fisherman, woodworker and wood carver, cook and provider of great abundance. His mantra til his final day was, "Busy people are happy people."
He is survived by his wife, Jean Hertzler Ostrander, their son, Steven Kent Ostrander, daughter, Karen Joyce Ostrander Buhler, their granddaughter Jessica Ann Ostrander, and grandson, Cody Michael Ostrander.
A Celebration of Life open house will take place on Sunday December 8, 2019, from 2-4pm at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel.
