Dave was born in Cleveland but found his true home in Columbus, where he met the love of his life, Nancy. After graduating from North High School, they married and began a beautiful partnership that would span more than 70 years. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion in Upper Arlington, Ohio, where they raised their three daughters and created a home that welcomed family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Dave proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that shaped his sense of discipline, loyalty, and lifelong pride in service. After attending The Ohio State University, Dave spent his professional career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Columbus office, retiring as a partner. As a transportation specialist, his work took him across the United States and Europe—journeys he treasured and often reminisced.
Dave’s happiest hours were often the simplest ones. He found peace and purpose outdoors, especially in his beloved backyard, where he could spend entire days working, reflecting, and taking pride in what he had built. He poured the same passion into his hobbies, particularly his love of antique cars—most notably classic MG roadsters. A longtime member of the Vintage MG Club of Southern California, Dave found joy in both the cars and the friendships they brought. He also delighted in collecting antique toys, always chasing the excitement of a meaningful discovery.
A CPA by profession, he was a member of the Capital City Masonic Temple #656 and supported numerous philanthropic organizations. His loyalty ran deep—especially to The Ohio State University. A devoted Buckeye football fan, he was proud to be a member of the Alumni and Presidents Clubs. He was equally devoted to his community, faithfully supporting Upper Arlington’s Jones Middle School lacrosse teams and cheering them on with pride.
Though Dave enjoyed traveling to warm destinations such as Newport Beach, California; his heart was always happiest at home. His most treasured moments were spent with family—gathered in backyards, sharing stories, laughter, and the easy joy of being together. Few traditions captured Dave better than his beloved 5:00 happy hour, a time to pause and connect with the people he loved most.
Above all else, Dave cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his children, Suzy and Jim Owen, and Sherri and Brett Diehl; his grandsons, Nathan Owen and wife Kate, Charlie Diehl, and Connor Diehl; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Owen and Patrick Owen; and his brother, Kevin Gaston, and sister-in-law, Patty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sandy, and his brother Robert.
A private family service will be held, followed by a celebration of life this spring in Dave’s cherished yard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Arbor Day Foundation or a charity of your choosing, reflecting Dave’s love of the outdoors.
