David Edwin Hairston Sr.

David "Wildman" Edwin Hairston, Sr., age 85, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at Grant Medical Center. He was born on September 13, 1939 in Circleville, Ohio. David was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from the City of Columbus as a refuse collection vehicle operator. Over the years, David enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and listening to his Citizens Band radio. He was preceded in death by his mother, Murriel Marie Hairston-Howell; father, Elzie LaMore Redman; brothers, Robert E. Hairston and James W. Hairston; sister, Elsie Marie Hairston. Left to cherish is memory are his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara (Belk) Hairston; children, Trina Hairston, David E. Hairston, Jr., Derwin Hairston, and Damond (Luvenia) Hairston; grandchildren, Rhashonda, Jalesa, Dominque, Timeisha, Deion, Donneata, Maya, Rashaad, and Damond, Jr.; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Cole and Marvine Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends 12-1pm Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43232, where a memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg.
