David Allan Kahl

David was born on November 24, 1940 in Ashland, Ohio to Burton and Metta Kahl. He graduated from Ashland College and was very proud to have served in the United States Air Force for 6 years, 10 months and 1 day. He was an electronic warfare officer and flew 13 missions on the last B-52H ever made.

He met his wife, Jane, when they were both stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Jane was his nurse in the hospital. They were married on February 14, 1970 and celebrated their 25th anniversary soon before Jane's passing. Dave lived his adult life in Columbus, Ohio and retired from his career as a Systems Analyst at Chemical Abstracts Service in 2005 after 35 years of service.

David was a dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed family road trips, woodworking, and taking care of his yard. He was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a Buckeyes or Bengals game. He was a very generous donor to many charitable causes and donated 33 gallons of blood and platelets to the Red Cross over his life. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. For the three years prior to his death he lived at an assisted living facility in the Akron-area and enjoyed bingo, chair volleyball, musical performances and seeing his grandchildren grow up.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Jane), and infant daughter (Lisa). David is survived by his daughters, Lynn Johnson (Michael), Tanya Kahl (Eric Kline), and Karen Clark (William); five grandchildren, Elena, Ryan, Maya, Shannon, and Jamison; sister, Emily DePriest (Larry) and brother, William Kahl (Susan).

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus, OH 43229. Visitation will be on Monday, October 15 from 5-7 pm at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH 43229. Dave's final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 995 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43205 or St. Elizabeth's at address listed above.
