David William Kathary

He is survived by his wife Carol Ann (Reaves) Kathary; Brother Douglas U. Kathary (Laine); Sons Benjamin (Kristen), Reaves, Scott (Lauren), and Michael; as well his grandsons Xander and Johnthan, and granddaughter Lana Ann.

David graduated from North High School in Columbus, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree from Capital University (where he also played football), and a Master's Degree in Administration from Florida Atlantic University. David began his teaching career at West High School in Columbus. He relocated to Broward County Florida where he taught at Piper High School and Blanch Ely High School before returning to Ohio and teaching for many years at Jones Middle School, Hasting Middle School, and Upper Arlington High School before retiring in 2000.

David loved coaching. He coached football and baseball in Florida and baseball at Upper Arlington schools. He coached every one of his son’s Little League teams. He also spent many hours encouraging and watching his sons play tennis. In recent years David enjoyed visiting casinos between Columbus and Florida.

His sense of humor was appreciated by many friends in Columbus and in Florida. A favorite quote was, “I don’t want excuses, I want results”.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, beginning at 3PM with visitation to follow until 5PM, at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221.
