Dennis was many things, but above all, he was a family man. Preceded in death by parents Kenneth George and Virginia Mikesell Heebink, sister Barbara Heebink.
His legacy lives on through his wife Susan Guthrie Heebink, daughter Benaye (Michael) Cooke, sons Rene (Pauline) Heebink and Dwayne (Laura) Heebink; step children John (Colleen) Watson, Richard (Laura) Watson and Molly (Jamie) Glaser; grandchildren Erin, TJ, Lily, Sarah, Daniel, Annie, Grace, Susan, Charlie, Michael, and great grandson Vincent. Dennis was an active and loving grandfather who never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Countless weekends and summers were spent at High Meadows, riding horses, cleaning the barn, driving the Gator, and going on adventures.
Dennis’s influence extends well beyond his family— he was a man of community. Whether in business or advocacy, he was dedicated to knowing and serving those around him. He founded The Heebink Group in 1980, a business management consulting firm. Along with his career achievements, he held several prominent positions within the communities where he lived, both in First Community Village and Logan, OH. Dennis served as Mayor of the Village and became a ‘woodshop warrior’. He loved his years in Hocking County. For 17 years he was President of the Washboard Music Festival. He served as a Board member, Treasurer and President of the Logan/Hocking Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Lancaster/Fairfield Chamber of Commerce; past President, Treasurer and Board member of the Hocking Hills Tourism Association; a past Treasurer and Board member of the Logan Town Center; a past Board member and Executive Committee member of the Community Improvement Corporation.
One of Dennis’ greatest passions and avocations in life was horses. While living in Hocking Hills, Dennis raised Thoroughbred racing horses for several years. He was a proud Board member Emeritus, past President and Treasurer of the Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners; and a past Board member and Treasurer of the Horsemen’s Protection and Benevolent Association.
The many prestigious titles and positions he held, however, never prevented him from performing the smallest tasks with care. He would as easily split wood as lead a national bank through a transition; would eagerly mow a field on his John Deere as soon as he would consult with a community organization. Through all the storms, he was the rock that held everyone down. His support and love for his family is everlasting, and his legacy of devotion and love will live on through those who had the honor to know and love him.
Schoedinger Funeral Services, Northwest is handling details. A private family Celebration of Life will be held this Fall on the Guthrie family farm that he so loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Flying Horse Farms, https://flyinghorsefarms.org/donate/
