Dolores "Dolly" (Pollack) Hornak, 87, of Lithopolis, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Thursday, June 14, 2018. She was born December 5, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Paul and Gertrude (Molnar) Pollack.
Dolly's pride, joy, passion, and life's work was her family. She grew up among 5 siblings. On May 27, 1949, she married the one true love of her life, George Hornak. They shared 61 years of marital bliss. Along the way, they welcomed seven beautiful children into the world, raising them in Pittsburgh before finally settling in Columbus, OH in 1962.
Dolly was absolutely devoted to her family. She enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with her loved ones - whether she was vacationing at the beach or on a house boat (she refused to get wet!), going for Sunday drives with her husband, shopping at craft shows with her daughters, finding delight in the constant activity of children around the house, or baking her famous apple pies!
She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her sharp intuition, and for the fierce love and loyalty she had for her family. She was a well-respected pillar of strength, a true matriarch, and a woman of conviction! Her physical presence, words of advice, kindness, and fellowship will be missed profoundly.
Left to remember her love and carry on her legacy are 6 children, Janice Richmond, George Jr. (Kathy) Hornak, Debbie (Jack) Eigensee, Sandy (Jeff Wooten), Jill (Michael) Born, Susan (James) Koon; 10 grandchildren, Corey Richmond, Adam (Emily) Eigensee, John (Jana) Eaton, Emily (Eric) Estell, Andrew Koon, Greg Hornak, Carley Hornak, Jeffrey Koon, Kelly Born, and Abby Born; 4 great-grandchildren, Jamie Eigensee, Charlotte Estell, Brooke Eigensee, and Beau Eigensee; a sister, Gertrude (Bill) Ward of Pittsburgh; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Hornak; cherished daughter, Carol (Joe) Eaton; brothers, Paul Jr. "Skip", Gene, Robert, and Charles.
Dolly's daughter Debbie and her husband Jack lovingly cared for her during the past 18 years. The family gives them their sincere, immense gratitude.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, June 19. The family will receive guests from 2:00 - 3:30 pm with a memorial service to follow at Schoedinger East, 5360 Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43232.
The family suggests sending memorial contributions to The National Kidney Foundation.
