

Donald R. “Dick” Emerson, age 87 of Columbus passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Doctor’s Hospital. Dick was born in Columbus to the late John E. And Florence M. Emerson. He attended South High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. When he returned from the service, Dick returned to work at his family’s business Emerson Appliance Electric Sales and Service in south Columbus where he retired after 41 years of service. Dick loved to fly, ride his motorcycle, and go to the firearms range. He was intelligent, creative, and had a life-long love of learning. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Emerson. Dick was a wonderful and loving husband to his wife of nearly 65 years, Virginia D. Emerson; a great and caring father to children Christopher (Robin) Emerson, Linda Emerson, and Connie Hane; a loving grandfather to Joshua (Katherine) Grabill, Sarah (Tom) Owens, Jamie Sicilian, Jason (Aubrey Fouts) Hane, Melissa Kinney, Melvin Hane II, Phillip Hane, Erin Emerson, and Amy (David) Tilley; Fifteen great-grandchildren; sister Helen Metzka; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
