Born in Chillicothe, Ohio on October 7th, 1932, Donald was the youngest son of Mortimer Friedman and Ruth Schachne Friedman. His three siblings, and Jane, his beloved wife of 37 years, predeceased him.
Don left behind: his three children, Philip Friedman, Todd Friedman (Barbara), and Elyce Friedman (Wes); his four stepchildren, Connie Smallwood (Carl), Mark Harris (Leslie), Jim Harris (Tami), and Debbie Oyer (Tim); and his six grandchildren, Todd Jr., Andrea, Joshua, Alissa, Jocelyn, and Nathaniel. He will be greatly missed.
Quiet, intelligent, and generous, Don enjoyed humorous stories, square dancing, working outdoors, and traveling with his wife. He graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950. After briefly working in his chosen field, he returned to Chillicothe to help run the family business. He wed Jane Mintern Harris in 1983, retired in 1989, and started Hilltop Woodworks the same year.
Don Friedman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a self-taught craftsman with a true passion for designing and building custom, solid, wood furniture and wooden objects. He built his first piece of furniture at the age of 24, and he went on to make a plethora of pieces for churches, friends, relatives, and various customers. Don's many meticulous and handsome creations will endure for years to come, as will our fond memories of him.
The family sends special thanks to the staff of Sunrise of Dublin and Capital City Hospice for giving Don kind and conscientious care especially during this pandemic.
Due to the severity of the Covid-19 crisis, there will be no funeral service, and the graveside service will be "Family Only". The private ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Chillcothe, Ohio. Pastor Tad Grover will be officiating.
