

Doris Jean Avery, age 86, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on November 11, 1925, to the late Friend and Martha Ilo Meek. Jean received a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Bowling Green State University, and she taught in the Findlay, Ohio area before starting her family. She served as president of the Women’s Board of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Jean is survived by her husband, Douglas N. Avery; children, Gail (Jeffrey) Keller, Ed (Laurie) Avery, and son-in-law, Doug Meeker; sister, Betty Joan (Wayne) Lutz; grandchildren, Kristany (Greg) Berger, Douglas Avery, Allison (Adam) Weber, Jonathan Avery (fiancée Bethany Davis), and Harry Avery (partner Jeff Dorocak); and great grandchildren, Alex Weber and Zachary Berger. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joy Jean Meeker. Family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Road, Dublin.
