I have been searching for Mrs. Sehring for years.  And I am so sad to know she passed.  She is my favorite person!  I adored her while I was at CSG and In used her legacy to guide me throughout the years hoping I would see her again.  I am so sorry for everyone's loss.  She was soooo amazing!!!!

Mrs. Sehring was a gift -- a treasure -- to our daughters and our community.  Her memory lives on in our hearts and in our collective embrace of lives of learning, engagement and purpose.

Lit a candle in memory of Dorothy G. Sehring

Mrs. Sehring was my fourth-grade teacher at CSG back in the early 1970's and is one of the teachers I remember most fondly.  

There was so much experiential learning in her classroom: The Australian baked apple dish I concocted for International Foods Day!  The sampler from our days reenacting homesteading.  And the visit to the Mound Builders' archaeological site -- with the essays we had to write, imagining ourselves as members of their society.

Most vivid is my recollection of playing the title role in the Scottish play.  I still have the sword and dagger the role required, and a photo my sister took of me in costume with the most fierce grimace on my face.  As a fellow educator myself now, I particularly appreciate how, once our performances were past, Mrs. Sehring had the class swap roles and perform an ad lib version just for ourselves.  It was illuminating to see how classmates dealt with the awkwardness of knowing the general shape of a scene without the details of all the lines; we all laughed at ourselves pretty heartily that day.

Mrs. Sehring was such an important figure in my education that I can only imagine how beloved she was within her own family.  My condolences on your loss.

Something on my heart for my teacher Mrs. Sehring who passed away this week. She had such a profound impact on so many generations of CSG girls and their families.
A tribute to Mrs. Sehring
Fourth Forum plays like a movie in mind. The scenes are clear and I can see myself and my friends joyfully living them. Woven through every memory, every experience and every triumph is Mrs. Sehring.
She is Fourth Form.
She sees me for me. She knows me and is the invitation to my fourth grade self to embrace joy and learning—to become courageous, curious, a contributor and a loyal friend. I am confident, strong and smart washed in her warmth, acceptance and love. She believes in her students and journeys with them to their future selves.
There is a rhythm buzzing and a contagious spirit about Mrs. Sehring. She is my first mentor and role model and I don’t even know it. She is the space between the notes that makes the music.
The intensity, professionalism and shear magic of performing in the Shakespeare play still pulses through my grown woman veins. She created expectation and raised the horizon for all of her girls.
As a teacher, mentor and performer myself, I hope I can create spaces for all to shine just like Mrs. Sehring did. Everyone mattered to her—she connected each girl to Shakespeare and the performance experience creating backstories,characters and eloquent dialogue for everyone to share regardless of their roles. Dignity and significance for all that I look back at now and hope to channel in the work I do with improvisation.
May you rest in peace, Mrs. Sehring. Your waves continue to ripple.

Dorothy Sehring was a graceful and elegant lady who carried herself a in wonderful and dignified way. She was always very kind to me and I deeply regret her passing. I wish only the best for my dear friend Dewey during this very difficult time.

Mrs. Sehring was strong and funny and kind, and a powerful inspiration to a young girl. To this day, her 1969 portrayal of Othello weeping over the body of a student Desdemona on the floor of our 4th grade classroom is the definitive Othello for me. She showed me what was possible that day, and opened a door I never knew existed. For that I will always be grateful. My sincerest condolences to her family,

Dorothy needs no flights of angels to sing her to her rest. She has a thousand former  4th grade students, all recalling how she helped them find their paths.

My most favorite teacher at CSG - I'm class of 1982.  She nurtured and taught us to be young ladies, preparing us for our step up into Middle School. What a wonderful lady she was, and how she will live on in the memories of hundreds of other Alumnae from CSG.

Dorothy Sehring was the most amazing teacher.  She was both of my daughters' 4th grade teacher.  They learned and performed Shakespearean dramas and comedies with her guidance.  Dorothy even taught the parents without knowing she was doing thus.  It is with heavy heart that I extoll these words for remembrance.  They are the Bard's.  "And when she dies, take her and cut her out in little stars; that she will make the face of heaven shine so that everyone will be in love with night and pay no attention to the garish sun."
