Anyone who talked to Bob and Mary Ellen for more than 5 minutes could instantly tell where Doug got his compassion and friendliness from.  Doug's big heart was his best trait. He would take the time to lend an ear if you needed it, offer advice if you asked for it, help reassure you during difficult times, talk you down from anger, whatever he could do to help you out. His humor was unparalleled. Doug was willing to go that extra mile for a good laugh. He was great at turning tense situations or uncomfortable situations into funny ones. He was slow to anger. I remember very few times where Doug would be genuinely angry at something, and it was always short lived. He never held grudges. He had a great capacity for forgiveness. Some of the best memories from my late teens and early twenties involve Doug. For 16+ years every time I hear the word "moist" I think of Doug. The word never really bothered me but for some reason Doug hated it. And the way he said it was absolutely hilarious. The world has lost a truly unique soul way to soon, and he will be missed dearly. Doug loved Tupac's lyrics and spoke of them often, even though it has been almost 20 years since he passed. I think it's appropriate to end on a (cleaned up a bit) Tupac lyric...
"There's gonna be some stuff you see that's gonna make it hard to smile in the future. But through whatever you see, through all the rain and the pain, you gotta keep your sense of humor. You gotta be able to smile through all the bs."    Love ya, Doug

Doug and I became friends in 1995. Over the next 5 years he helped change the way I think, act, and even dress. I doubt I would have ever gained the confidence to speak to women if not for him.He was ALWAYS there when I needed him. He introduced me to many great people I still know today. He had a good heart and defended me even when I was wrong. Doug was the definition of a true friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to his parents who are exceptional people. Doug Brooks, my best friend, partner, counselor, roomie. We had a great bond. I'm so glad we created many memories over the last three years. You would have enjoyed seeing all the positive posts on your Facebook page. You helped inspire many people with your encouraging words. I miss seeing your Reddit posts. Our couch potatoe evenings. Ming Flower.  Halloween. My favorite memory is when you took the Colts flag and ran outside with it through the yard back and forth like you were on the field after they made a goal. Finding the Chinese money. Your silly dance. I know you feel and see the love from the other side. Keep smiling. I'll see you again. Xoxo Amy

Theres not much I can say that I havent already said. I cannot believe youre gone. I keep going to say hi, or share a funny picture or video id seen. Or to ask how your day was. I keep expecting you to check on me like you always did.. You left us far far too soon, and I will miss you more than words. As I know your family and all your friends will as well. Youve touched so many lives.  I wish I had better words today, normally I would, but i just cant wrap my mind around it all to come up with them. I'm going to miss you so much my dear sweet friend. I think knowing Doug and choosing just one happy memory is a bit of a challenge! Doug had a host of expressions, stories and talents that made him hilarious. He was always fun to be around and ALWAYS had the time to listen to and to help his friends. The amazing thing about Doug was that EVERYONE was his friend. You'll have to search far and wide to find someone who was so genuine and so loyal to so many people. It says something about Doug, that especially now, when we are all shocked and sad and grieving, we are all doing a lot of smiling too.  I'm so thankful to have played such a small part in such a big love. Thank you, Doug, for ALL of the laughter, smiles and cherished memories. I am proud to call you my friend. You will be greatly missed.

My darling Dougie Love... we were friends for almost 20 years.  We laughed and cried together, we talked about the past and the future, we shared the same love of sarcasm and wit... but mostly we we laughed...A LOT.  You had such a wonderful way with words and a way of always making sure I felt beautiful and loved, always. I will miss your smile and our long talks and I know we'll meet up again someday.  No matter what, we were always there for each other.  I hope you know how valuable that was to me.  And I hope that you and your family know just how very much you were loved. The people Doug touched have all suffered a tremendous loss, most of all his family.  Gone too soon but never forgotten.  Love you Dougie and missing you like crazy!

Praying for the Brooks family.  Such a tragic, heartbreaking loss. I pray God wraps his arms around you all and gives you comfort and peace.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.  My condolences to the entire Brooks family.
