
FRERICKS, Edward John, 84, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Circleville, Ohio, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. Born November 26, 1925 in Van Wert, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia. The couple married in 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and spent 58 years together before her passing in 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edith (Gilliland) Frericks and sister, Carol. Edward is survived by his ten children: Kathy (Joe) Tomlinson, Mark (Joyce) Frericks, Tom (Sue) Frericks, Mary (Mike) Logan, Anne (Brad) Lamone, Sue (Jim) Lepesko, John (Lisa) Frericks, David (Kim) Frericks, Jim (Denise) Frericks, and Matthew (Grant Foote) Frericks and Tom Duffy. Edward had 22 grandchildren: Andy, Emily and Michael Tomlinson; Anson, Chris (Jacque) and Brad Frericks; Tom (Ashley), Kelly and Megan Frericks; Mary Corbett (Walter) So, Adam (Kelly) and Katie (fiancé, Colin Hedges) Logan, and Mary Hampp; John and T.J. Duffy; Patrick and Kelsey Lepesko; Lauren and Georgie Frericks; Abby and Madison Frericks; Andrea Frericks and great-granddaughters, Sydney Logan and Jaeden Barnhart.
He is also survived by a brother Arthur C. Frericks and a sister Mary Lou Scothorn.
Frericks was a graduate of Van Wert High School, Class of 1943. He attended the University of Notre Dame and was a great fan of the “Fighting Irish.”
Frericks was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Sergeant-Major of the Third Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Frericks was the owner of the Circleville Lumber Company and the developer of Northwood Park Subdivision in Circleville, Ohio. In 1969, Frericks sold his business interests to The Lowe’s Corporation. He was employed by the Peter Kuntz Company of Dayton, Ohio from 1969-1984.
In 1984 the Frericks moved to Naples, Florida. Mr. Frericks served as president of the Windsor Court Condominium Association and co-founded the Harbor Drive—Gulf Shore Association and served 15 years as its first president. He also served on the Naples Board of Appeals for eight years.
Frericks was a former Rotarian and member of the Knights of Columbus, B.P.O.E. Elks, Circleville Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio State Lumber Association. He was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church of Naples, Florida.
The family will receive friends between 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Circleville, Ohio, followed by a Wake to celebrate his life at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Circleville. Father Stephen Krile, Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Circleville.
