

He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Tana and Bill (Becky) Thompson; grandchildren B.J. (Sarah) Thompson and Annie (Lee) Inks; and great-grandchildren Sydney, Hailey and Peter Thompson; Owen and Emma Inks, and a brother, Rob (Mary) Thompson.
Always a sports enthusiast, Ned played football and basketball at Andrew Lewis High School, and started college at William and Mary in Virginia. Ned proudly served in the military during WWII, in the Army Air Corps as a pilot and flight instructor. He continued his love of flying and had an enduring interest in aviation. In 1946, Ned continued his education at Virginia Tech, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and continued to complete his Master’s degree in Sanitary Engineering. Ned enjoyed and took great pride in his engineering profession, beginning his career as an engineer with DuPont. He and Betty were accomplished gardeners. He continued to use these skills as a volunteer for municipal parks while residing in Cincinnati, after his retirement. Ned remained active playing golf and tennis most of his life. Ned and Betty returned to live in Columbus in 2008. Ned’s kindness , devotion and ready sense of humor will be sadly missed by his family, and his friends.
A service of memory will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Schoedinger Northwest , at 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221.
