

Elaine Mercedes Downs Walter died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Riverside Hospital. Born October 18, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Marie (O'Brien) and Marion A. Downs. Graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and attended Kent State University. Preceded in death after 51 years of marriage to her husband Robert C. Walter. She is survived by her children Stephanie W. (Lowell) Darling, Robert D. (Margaret "Peggy") Walter, Mary Lynne W. (Gene) Burleson, Monika W. (D. Grant) Wyborny; Grandchildren Jacob (Rebecca) Darling, Faith (Alexander Lourie) Darling, Matthew (Seanna) Walter, Blane (Claudia) Walter, Peter (Jessica) Walter, Megan (Adam) Seitchik, B. Ryan (Laura) Kelleher, Kathleen (Nick) Twining, Tessa Wyborny, John David (Katy) Wyborny; Great-Grandchildren Cate, Drew, Jane Ramsey and Gabe Darling; Lucy, Ingrid and Eleanor Lourie; Madeline, Cole and Miles Walter; Karina, Max and Maya Walter; Casey, Avery, Matthew, Rory Walter; Oliver and Maren Seitchik; Hayes and Wynne Kelleher; Beckett and Max Twining; Lainey Wyborny; Sister Beverly Weiss; Nephews Brad (Kim) Weiss, Brian (Darla) Weiss; and many friends. After her husband lost his eye sight, she worked at his side in his food brokerage business for two decades. She has been an active member of St. Agatha parish for 63 year and was a member of the St. Agatha's Women's Club, served as its President, and was the founder and co-chair of the Bereavement Committee. She was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Elaine served in many roles including Girl Scout leader, a member of two bridge clubs for over 50 years, supporter of St. Charles Preparatory School and The Childhood League Center. Family will receive friends 3-6pm Tuesday, October 2, at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Mass of Christian Burial 10am Wednesday, October 3 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Rd, Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Celebrant Fr. Daniel L. Ochs and Msgr. Joseph Hendricks. Family will also receive friends immediately following the Mass in Monsignor Kennedy Parish Center at the church. Following the reception, there will be an entombment at Resurrection Cemetery.
