Eleanor Linn-Merrill, age 95, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Eleanor (El) was born in Columbus, Ohio, on December 18, 1923, to Ralph and Irene (McKinley) George. She entered college at age 16, and received a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from St. Mary of the Springs College. She married Arthur Linn (Art) on April 22, 1944, when he returned home on leave while serving in WWII. El went on to receive her R.N. degree from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, as well as, an MA from Central Michigan University. Eleanor worked in management at Mt. Carmel Hospital for several years, then went on to a successful career in nursing management at the Ohio Department of Health where she worked until retirement.
Eleanor and Art raised their three children in Grandview, Ohio, where Eleanor attended school as a child. Their favorite family vacation was at Bay Point in Marble Head, Ohio, on Lake Erie. While living in Grandview, Eleanor became a member of Calvary Bible Church, and a Blue Bird leader. She and Art enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and attended two Rose Bowl games. They also went on several cruises with Charles Stanley's ministry from First Baptist Church in Atlanta. She and Art became friends with Rev. Stanley, and supported his 'In Touch' Ministry. Eleanor enjoyed the art of cooking and was a gourmet cook, specializing in Oriental Cuisine. She loved to throw parties and serve elaborate meals and deserts. Eleanor had a secret wish of becoming an Interior Designer. She creatively designed her exquisite home in Timberlake, South of Columbus. She also enjoyed gardening, Christian music, painting, crossword puzzles, card games, live musicals, and dancing.
At 82 she met Roger Merrill while living at Kensington Place in Columbus. They married a year later and lived a very close and happy life together. Sharing a love of music, they took ball-room dance lessons, while living at Dublin Retirement Village, and happily spent time dancing together and entertaining. Eleanor was welcomed into Roger's family and loved spending time with all of them. While married to Roger she met Nellie Smith, who cared for them in many ways, and remained a very close friend.
Eleanor was a strong, generous, compassionate, independent woman, with a great sense of humor, contagious smile and a twinkle in her eye. She lived in several Assisted Living communities and enjoyed all the wonderful staff who cared for her and the friends she made. We want to thank the beautiful Ganzhorn Suites who made her feel at home and happy. She laughed a lot and enjoyed many friends and activities. We especially want to thank the wonderful staff and friends at Dublin Assisted Living who cared for her during the last months of her life. She quickly felt at home in her new apartment there and delighted in the caregivers who showed her compassion and made her smile. She lovingly looked forward to annual visits from her brother, David and sister-in-law, Jean. Also, our gratitude to Vitas Hospice in her final days.
Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Arthur Jefferson Linn, Jr. and her second love and husband Roger Merrill; brothers, John and Delbert Seegar.
