Elizabeth Ann Canty

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Shannon) Canty went to her heavenly home on December 9, 2017. She was the most kind, giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was devoted to her family and was so very proud of her grandchildren. She loved animals and always had a cat by her side. Her favorite pastimes were hosting family gatherings, quilting, helping others and caring for her family.

Betty was born and raised in St. Clairsville, OH. After high school she moved to Columbus, OH where she met and married her husband of 54 years, John Canty. She was a Medical Assistant for Dr. Richard M. Ward of Coleman, Olix and Ward, Inc. for 34 years.

She is survived by her husband, John Canty, daughter Anna Plummer (husband Mark and children Hayden and Hannah), and son Patrick Canty (wife Sabine and son Christopher Homsi). Her sisters Sally Moser and Margaret Johnson. Her in-laws Catherine Adkins, Patty Ann Canty, Eileen Dine, Rita Theresa (Greg) Purnell, Tom (Liz) Canty and Alice (Steve) Williams. Her many nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Lucille Shannon and brother Tommy Shannon Jr. Her parents-in-law John and Mary Canty. Her in-laws James Moser, George Dine, Mary Ellen and Ron Adolph, and Margaret and Carl Diefenbach.

Betty’s family will receive visitors on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 2pm – 4pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4pm at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Cozy Cat Cottage (www.cozycatcottage.org) where Betty rescued her newest kittens Rufus & Riley, who brought her much joy and laughter.
