Emily Elizabeth Everett, age 36, passed away at home peacefully on Friday May 11, 2018 surrounded by loving family and caring friends. She was born on August 20, 1981 in Mentor, Ohio. Emily was a 1999 alumnus of Mentor High School, where she excelled both academically and athletically. A four-year letter winner and three-year varsity basketball starter, Emily also earned summa cum laude honors upon graduation. She continued her educational journey in Columbus, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from The Ohio State University in 2003.
Emily leveraged her love of music and sports into a career in radio, working for 97.1 The Fan radio in Columbus for the last 12 years, most recently as Promotions Director. She was an avid Columbus and Cleveland sports fan, always rooting for the Buckeyes, Cavaliers, Indians and Blue Jackets. After Columbus Blue Jackets hockey games, Emily could be found on Fox Sports Ohio TV hosting the ‘Fan Cam’ promotional segment.
Emily was a generous soul and devoted much of her time away from work to various charities, for both 2-legged and 4-legged friends alike. Volunteering for organizations such as Music Loves Ohio and The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer were two of her favorite ways to give back to the Central Ohio community that she loved. But without a doubt her philanthropic passion was working on behalf of RESCUED Ohio, doing anything she could to help rescue dogs find comfort and happiness, including opening up her own home to numerous canines as a foster family.
Most who had the pleasure of meeting Emily instantly loved her bright smile, her hospitable charisma, and her sincere and selfless personality. When she was diagnosed with cancer and started chemotherapy, her mantra was "Good Vibes Only" which was quickly adopted by her many supportive friends during her year-long battle.
Emily will be deeply missed by her husband, Samuel Everett; mother, Paulette Spehek; brother, Dave (Dori) Spehek; her two rescue dogs Zoey and Rudy Jr., and many other loving family members and dear close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, David Spehek. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Thursday May 17, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
Prior to Emily’s passing she shared that she wanted people to celebrate her life and to do something good to honor her memory. In lieu of sending flowers, she asked that memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity below:RESCUED Ohio, PO Box 382, New Albany, Ohio 43054, https://www.rescuedohio.org/index.php/donations/
