

Emily Thompson Meckstroth (93) of Upper Arlington, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday March 7, 2016 at Kobacker House. Born December 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Edwin Halliday and Ethel Poe Thompson. Emily was raised in Bexley, Ohio and graduated from Bexley High School in 1941 and The Ohio State University in 1945, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Emily was a member and deacon of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in- law, Betty and Lee Caryer, of Bexley, sisters-in-law Gretchen (Dr. Robert Angerman ) of Navarre, OH and Rachel (Dr. George Hoeflinger) of Hilliard; and son-in-law Dr. Donald L. Burton. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Dr. Charles V. Meckstroth; four special daughters Susan Burton of Dublin, Nancy (Richard) Kaufman of Chapel Hill, NC, Diane (Dan) Kearney of Atlanta, GA, and Karen (James) Houk of Upper Arlington, OH; eight grandchildren: Stephanie (Danny) Rogers, Kristen Burton, Tyler and Caroline Kaufman, Laura, Will (Maggie) Kearney, John and Charlie Houk. She is also survived by nephew Lee Caryer of Columbus, Peg Antle of Reynoldsburg and Pat Bembry (Shelton) of Ooltewah, TN, plus other nieces and nephews. Emily was an avid walker. She collected miniatures for several doll houses and enjoyed decorating her home at Christmas and other holidays. She was proud of her patio garden and loved tending to the beautiful flowers. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was so special to her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Columbus, OH 43221, Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1100 Dennison Ave., Columbus, OH 43201, or to a charity of your choice. Family and friends may visit 6-8 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday March 12, 2016 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd., with Pastor Jim Mehler officiating.
