4 years gone, but I still miss you like you were here just yesterday.

I worked with Emily at Gamestop. We instantly connect over video games, political and social rants, cats(obviously cats are amazing) and rants about Gamestop. She used to tell me about how important holidays were to her as she loved spending time with her family. After today I can see why. She had an amazing support system. I remember the first day I worked with Emily. I came in to find her in the backroom essentially destroying it in order to clean it up, all while declaring that the store manager and past assistant store manager must have be idiots. This trend would continue the whole time we worked together. I can recall one holiday, she had come back from visiting her brother and she ranted for pretty much the whole day, that she had been at a party and during it, when people asked where she worked and she told them, they would say "oh you're still in school" or "oh you're still job hunting". I think I can still her yelling "I work full time and get sick time which is better than most of my peers!" Needless to say I was extremely happy to hear she had found a job doing what she loved shortly after that.  Also anyone that had the privilege of seeing her tumblr that told hilarious work stories, should know how funny she is. 

Emily was such an amazing person in so many ways. We never got the opportunity to sit down and play pathfinder together or hang out outside of work. I will regret this forever because I know I would have been lucky to be closer to Emily. I will never forget her or the support that I saw today.

Deepest condolences and prayers for healing and peace to Emily's family and friends. I  got to know her for a short time concerning our mutual work in teaching.

I find it so difficult to find the right words at this sad, sad time. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to your family... Remembering Emily's warm and beautiful smile...

I cannot even begin to tell you how very sorry I am for you and your family's loss.  Emily and my daughter Laura graduated from high school together and when I read of her passing in the newspaper, I was completely shocked.  So young, so beautiful, and with so much to offer to this world!  Obviously, God has a special purpose for Emily and one day we will know what that is.  My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Oh my gosh...I've just happened upon Emily's obituary and I am so shocked and so in tears that I can hardly see to type....I am so, so sorry...the video was lovely.  Connie Johansson (California)...will be in further touch later.  Much, much sympathy and love.

Emily taught me many things. Many important things. Important things like being strong in my convictions, thinking deeply about social justice and how to fight for what you believe in. However, the memory that keeps surfacing is one that makes me smile and, while it too taught me a lesson, was perhaps a more mild and homey lesson. Through her I learned the joy of cotton candy malts from UDF. Never, ever, in my life, would I have ordered that combination. She taught me that sometimes you need to ignore what you think you know and try something that sounds insane. You may be surprised. You may find joy. Every time I drink one she will be with me and live on in the simple delight that suffuses my heart.

What happy memories this video gave Lynn and I of the Stopa family back in East Aurora. All the kids together.
Lizzie was telling us yesterday of Emily sitting with her when they were both very little holding a book and talking.  Lynn said, "Very good reading", and Lizzie whispered, "She's not really reading", which was very possible because of her very young age, but Lynn looked over Emily's shoulder and said, "No, she's really reading" (!)
(All those Stopas have always been smarty pants.)

Nora and Lizzie both remember Emily, Kate and Jack very well from the early days and both said how nice they always were.

We will always hold dear Emily in our hearts.

I am so sorry to hear about Emily passing.  I worked with her for about a year and she was brilliant and funny.  I can still hear her ba-do-pa-doing all time time as she worked. My deepest condolences to you all. ~ K
