

Ernest “Ernie” Young, 91, of Circleville, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Logan Elm Health Care. He was born February 7, 1919 as stated on his birth certificate, but he celebrated from the 7th through the 17th because he was never sure of the date. He was born near Huntington, West Virginia, the son of the late John G. and Elizabeth Ellen (Hazelett) Young. Ernie served in the Army as an infantryman during WWII in the European and Pacific Theaters. On February 24, 1940, he married Gladys Ilene Cowell. He is survived by children, Robert Allen (Nancy) Young of Orlando, Florida, Judith Ann (Ronald) Cain of Laurelville and James Edward (Sharon) Young of Circleville; a sister-in-law, Mary Young of Ocala, Florida; grandchildren, James Robert Notestone, David Notestone, Bret Notestone, Brian Cain, Kevin Young, Melissa Hoffhines and Randy Young; and several great-grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys in 1953; also brothers, Ray, James, Earl, Clyde and John Jr.; sisters, Elsie Wallace and Virginia Johnson, who helped raise Ernie’s children following Glady’s death. He was also preceded in death by grandsons, Timmy Young and Michael Cain. Ernie loved working and continued his job operating a boom truck for a lumber company until he was 78 years old. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. During retirement you could find Ernie most days enjoying a meal at Goodwin’s Restaurant. Ernie has been a resident at Logan Elm Health Care for the past 7+ years. The family extends many thanks to them for his care. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 amSaturday, July 10, 2010 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Rev. William Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mt.OliveCemetery, South Perry.
