Eula (Hunter) McCown age 55 years of Columbus, OH passed away on March 28, 2023 at Doctor's Hospital after a lengthy battle with chronic illnesses. Eula was born December 15, 1967 in Williamson WV to the late James D. and Liddie Jo (DiaIs) Hunter. She also was preceded in death by her younger sister Beth (Hunter) Lyon.
Eula graduated from Highland High School in Sparta, OH in 1986. She then went on to pursue a degree in nursing and received her LPN license from Knox County School of Practical Nursing in 1988 and specialized in geriatric care her entire career.
Eula tried to fill her life with the little things that brought her and her loved ones happiness. She got joy from experiences such as late-night margaritas and drag shows with her dear friend William Jennings. William taught her how to make authentic Cuban food. Her love of cooking made her a natural at making tamales, and she shared that love with family and friends as often as she could. Eula also enjoyed collecting things. She would shop in thrift and antique stores looking for interesting things to fill her home. She collected Disney movies, Betty Boop memorabilia, and thanks to her mother-in-law, Jannie, many Vera Bradley purses.
A lover of nature and animals, Eula gravitated toward items that reminded her of this. She surrounded herself with gems, crystals, leaves, feathers, and symbols of her Wiccan beliefs. She cared for neighborhood stray cats often and doted on her beloved Siamese cat, Meena.
Once her illnesses claimed her mobility, her love of music such as K-Pop, 80’s Pop and Rock, and Country music (except Willie Nelson) became more important to her. She loved a good crime documentary and watched translated/captioned Korean dramas when her vision cooperated. Her favorite television shows Charmed, Supernatural, and Gilmore Girls comforted her with reminders of her beliefs and dedication to her family.
Eula leaves behind her husband, Michael McCown as well as three sisters: Janet (Hunter) and Jay Thompson of Nitro, WV. Pamela (Hunter) and Rev. Michael Malcosky of Vandalia, OH. Samantha (Hunter) and Kyle Fisher of Marengo, OH. In addition to her husband and sisters, she leaves behind a brother-in-law Fred Lyon (Beth) of Marengo, OH and many beloved nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
