

Frederick "Van" Herman Van Almsick, Jr., 90, passed away on February 15th, 2018. He was born on October 29, 1927 to the late, Frederick, Sr. and Gertrude (Schwarz) Van Almsick. Van worked at Jess Howard Electric and then retired from Ohio Bell. He was very proud of being a China Marine in World War II and was a leader in the Boy Scouts, Troop 98. He is one of the original Jefferson Township volunteer firemen and served as Captain. In his retirement, Van enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Ohio State Football. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Jenkins; and his sister, Florence Wilson Beall. He will be missed by those surviving him, including his wife of 65 years, Ethel; his children Bill (Mary), Gary (Joanne), Terry (Jacquee), and Jodi (Chris) Van Almsick; his grandchildren, Adam and Megan, Chris (Amanda), and Patra (Shaun) Van Almsick, Jenna Myers, Austin and Alyson Van Almsick, Marc and Andy Wing, Matt and Angela Jenkins; cousins, Judy Balthrope, Fred Schwarz Jr., and Alma Kochensparger; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Groveport Special Olympics P.O. Box 296, Groveport, OH 43125. Arrangements were entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 where a visitation will be held on February 19th, 2018 from 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held on February 20th, 2018 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Jefferson Township Cemetery.
