Galena “Granny” Gay (Salyer) Phillips, 92, of Delaware, OH peacefully passed away on September 16, 2023. Always a farm girl at heart, Granny cherished memories of growing up with her brothers and sisters in the hills of Kentucky. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Columbus Police Lieutenant Herbert Phillips, she moved to Ohio to raise their family, and open Phillips Yarn Shop on Cleveland Avenue.
Preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Zelda (Murray); her husband, Herb; her daughter, Rita; and her son, Fred. Granny will always be remembered for her nurturing spirit, teasing nature, and making the best chocolate chip cookies around.
She is survived by her son-in-law Bob (Connie) and grandchildren: Heather (Chris), Jennifer (Scott), and Wyatt along with great-grandchildren: Ellie, Reagan, Sydney, Weston and Grant who like to imagine she’s now happily rocking on a porch with Herbie, Joan, and Fred, listening to country music, crocheting the day away.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Willow Brook Christian Village, along with Promedica Hospice Care, for the loving support they provided. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willow Brook Christian Village, Delaware, Ohio.
