I am so sorry I could not attend Gary's funeral. He was a good man. Thanks Rick for posting this video tribute to your Dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family.

When I remember of my days at WEST HIGH SCHOOL in the late 60s, Gary Link always comes to mind. I did not have him for a class, but Gary and I knew each other well. He made almost all the students fill good about being a member of WEST HIGH SCHOOL. After all Gary was WEST HIGH SCHOOL. He was PROUD of WEST HIGH SCHOOL. Even though he lived in Grove City and sent his boys there. He thought that was best for them.  I returned from the military service to help out at WEST HIGH just in time for Gary and Dave K. to win the OHSAA State Baseball Championship. He was so proud of the members of the team he help coach. Any player that came back in the years to follow, were always welcomed. Not just that team, any team or sport he coached. A special night was when he asked to have them announced during a halftime or during the second half of a basketball or football game when the guys would always gather for a reunion at a game. Gary will be always in my heart and prayers. If it was not for this troubled times we are living in now, and we would be having basketball games at WEST HIGH SCHOOL, I would ask for a moment of silence in Gary's honor.  When we needed to resurvey the football field years ago, Gary and his brother offered to help me with it. We found some of the markers used years earlier. He was proud of that too.
It is an honor to known Gary Link and his family.

To Ron and Rick, you are the pride of your mother and father, above the pride they had for West High School. You have my deepest and sincere sympathy and condolences at this time of sorrow. May Gary rest in peace and no more worries.

Mr.Link was my favorite teacher ,kind, honest and non judgmental. A true cowboy my mom went to school with him for 12 years..I  had the pleasure to see him and his beautiful wife 2 years ago when I lost my father. His memory was on point reminding  not so good for me.To his family I grieve with you God bless you,and I pray time will ease your pain.      Your father was awesome. West high class of 75 grad. I was fortunate enough to have Mr Link as a teacher and coach and he excelled at both. Always fair and a great sense of humor. He made many of us better students, players, and most importantly people.Lots of great memories from baseball and as someone mentioned those arm punch love taps in the hall got your attention. RIP Gary you will missed.

Mr Link was my favorite teacher at West High School, he was a wonderful and loved Man by so many of us. One of my many memories is along with all of his other responsibilities at West High he was the attendance counselor, I remember getting in trouble for cutting class in my sophomore year, but he was never too harsh, when I was in my senior year I worked for him in his attendance office. I graduated in 1979 and missed him so much I went back the following year to visit him, I’ll never forget it because I was parked in the back alley, when I went to leave I found that I locked my keys in my car and he helped me get it unlocked. My Parents also went to school with him and my Mom was in his graduating class and has great memories, she said she loved visiting with him at their class reunions. About 20 years after I graduated I started running in to him at the Grove City Kroger and he remembered exactly who I was, which was hard to believe after 20 years of never seeing him again. That shows his love and devotion he had for all of the students he had connected with over his years at West High. He will be greatly missed and has created a wonderful legacy.  May God be with his Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren during this difficult time of such a tremendous loss. God Bless you and remember because of Jesus we will be reunited again!!

Gary Link was my History teacher my Sophomore year. History was not my favorite subject but he made it interesting and loved all of his students.
Connected with him and his wife Ronda few years later at Hoge Memorial Church
where our friendship grew. Gary was a great man with a sense of humor and will be missed greatly and is now with his beloved wife.

My family and close friends looked forward to the annual Ski Club trip to Holiday Valley, even years after graduation.  Gary always had an open door, words of encouragement, and a contagious smile. I was honored to have him as my friend. Thoughts and prayers to all family and friends whose lives were touched by Gary Link.

Gary was a big part of my going giving me “Y” the building Mints to sell to pay for the Building on  Next as football coach where was teacher, mentor, and After graduation friend. And it didn’t end there 20 year’s later I go to the Y for a Christmas tree and there he was. I know he touched many lifes like mine and will be long remembered.

I will never forget Mr. Link walking down to Burger Chef when people cut class.......Cowboy was that funny to see everyone run out the opposite door like cockroaches when the light was turned on when he walked in. Mr. Link was a fair & caring man......I became friends with him after high school and could never call him Gary. You will be missed Mr. Link.

RIP Mr. Link you were always my favorite teacher. I remember my first day of the 9th grade walking into West High School petrified. My dad walked me into school and walked me to my class just to look you up and tell me how great you were. He said take care of my baby will you. The summer after I graduated from West I actually worked with Mr. Link at the Franklin County Engineer’s Department painting guardrail along the county roads.  Simply put, he was a very nice man.  Condolences to his family.

I was lucky to know Mr Link. He was a great teacher and mentor to all of his kids at West High. I enjoyed our talks about the good old days when he would come in to my job at Sam's Club. He would look me up to say hi and ask me how I was doing and he would let me know how was. He will be missed. He is having a celebration up in heaven being reunited with his wife. I always liked and respected Mr. Link both as a teacher and a coach. He truly cared about young people and enjoyed working with them in the classroom or on the athletic fields. Mr. Link had a great sense of humor and even though he would sometimes portray himself as a tough guy, he always did what was best for students and athletes. Later in life I got to know Gary has both a teaching peer and teammate playing adult softball. Gary always put a smile on my face, as well as a few swats to my backside in my younger days. It was a great privilege to know Gary during his summer and after teaching/coaching retirement employment at the Franklin County Engineer's Office. Many whom I've meet over the years who were West High School alumni had many good things to say about Gary. Rest in Peace.

My condolences to Mr. Link's family. He was a really good man, He was my mother's classmate at West, class of '57. She said back then, he would go to the neighborhood courts and play basketball with his black classmates and others without even thinking twice. This was not a common practice in the 50's.  He was the basketball coach when I attended West in the 80's and the players (one of whom was my boyfriend at the time) said he the most fair and inclusive coach they ever had. I saw him last at their 55th class reunion in 2012. I'm very glad to have known him and glad he is at rest now. May his family be comforted.

Gary was my first football coach.  He coached me on the Yellow-jackets in the Lions league.   The following year he was coaching me on the Westgate Hawks.    My parents really liked Gary and my dad knew Rhonda’s mom so they introduced them.  Gary came to West High and coached me on the JV football team.  I would see Gary after graduating and loved talking to him.  He was such a great man and will be deeply missed.

My wife and I graduated from WHS in '75 and '76, and we both got know Gary well through our various activities.  As a baseball coach, he was tough, fair, and fun, and he provided endless encouragement to every single player.  He was very instrumental in our team's success during those years.  As a sophomore, I recall him frequently giving me a hard time on and off the field. Challenging me, pushing me, and even giving me 'love taps' in my upper arm as I walked past him in the hall.  And I fondly remember his answer when I once asked him why he was "hassling me so much".  He put his arm around my shoulder, looked me straight in the eyes and said with that wry smile, "Son, if I'm not giving you grief, you'll know I don't care.".  That really stuck with me.  Thankfully, Gary never stopped giving me grief and he never stopped caring, and I became a better person because of him.  RIP Coach Link, you are missed by many.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Link. I was one of the fortunate students who transitioned with him from junior yr to senior yr. He was my favorite teacher by far and I was lucky enough to get him two years in a row. I hated History, that is until having Mr.Link. He was always so involved with his students and truly cared about us. He would always have a smile and a joke, but if you messed up, he'd bring you back. He is absoulty one of my fondest memories from WHS. My sincere condolences to his family. He was a wonderful human being.

Always there for his kids. I was a sophomore trying to make football. We had some pretty impressive guys. He called out “Brown 1” (first team Defense) 2 seniors both jumped in the spot and full eqt. Started fighting for the spot.  Coach Link let it go a few minutes then he jumped between them, broke it up and sat them down. One tough SOB was my thoughts. 
Then my SR year the infamous “fight at Westgate” one of his Cowboy Linebackers and a Silver Knight. The entire school was there, only one teacher on his own time . He was not going to let anyone get hurt or in trouble as long as he knew about it. “The only Teacher” who took the after school time . Great respect Mr Link, plus working with you when you spent some time with Fabcon years later. Good Teacher , great Man!

I will always remember Mr. Link being a man full of humor and kindness for whomever passed his way.  He was one of those rare people that stick out as being special, no matter how briefly they pass your way.  The world has lost a truly good man.  My deepest condolences to the family. I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Link. He was my business math teacher in 1965. He was a really nice man and a great teacher.  He once had me sew a button back on his sports coat. He didn’t know that I had never sewn anything in my life. I hope it stayed on! Rest In Peace now Gary Link you  left us all with great memories now you rest.

Liked him so.....ski club and homeroom. I remember Mr. Link telling Brandon (my twin brother) Your dad wouldn’t be  Elmer Dobbins (graduated in 1967) would he?....well you come sit up here in the front row with me young man (first day of History class 1987).
It’s funny us four Dobbins kids (and many others as well) had great relations with him. The Good Lord gained a great angle yesterday.  Might have to break out the ole WHS jacket Monday and head to Cols.

I knew Gary from church and study hall at West.  I did not have the pleasure of having him for a class.  He knew my name but always called me Bette.  When I asked him why, he said I had Bette Davis eyes.  He made me feel very special.

Great coach !!  I will never forget meeting him on the Magly  Field (freshman in “87” ) ... he was an offense lineman coach ... when I was trying out for left Guard ... he said son you better widen your stance chomp those feet ... if you didn’t coach Link would knock ya down... then tell ya get up ... he said son What is your name ?  Brandon Dobbins Coach ... then he said “ Dobbins “ you related to Elmer Dobbins I said yes sir that’s my father ... hell I taught him 20 yrs ago that would put ya back to 1967 ... yep he graduated that year we laughed ... said son get back in line ... taught me a lot ... Sadden to hear this Mr.Link my favorite teacher and a great man. One thing for sure he always kept a smile on his face. I graduated from WEST HIGH in 1967 and Mr.Link was always one you looked up to Even after school you still looked up to him.I drove a COTA Bus for 31yrs and when ever I was on the Mound St. route and passed his house I would toot the horn and if he was in the yard I would stop and if possible go and shake his hand.Mr.Link was well loved but all WEST HIGH students and he will truly be missed.WEST HIGH,WESTHIGH,WEST HIGH.NOW AND FOREVER.

I am saddened to hear of the death of my friend, Gary Link.  Gary, along with others to include myself went to and played fast pitch softball for Hoge Memorial at Westgate Park.  From time to time I would visit with Gary at Hoge when he was on Deacon duty.  In addition, I always looked forward in seeing Gary & Rhonda, God rest her soul, at the West High School all Alumni Christmas Lucheon......Rest in peace, my dear friend.
