

Genell Secrest, age 92, a resident of Friendship Village of Dublin, died Monday, June 3, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born in Collinsville, Mississippi, a daughter of the late George Lofton and Velma (Clay) Hand. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Rea; sons, Wiley (Rita) of Upper Arlington and Steve (Deborah), of Granite Bay, Calif.; grandchildren, Wendy (John) Kane, of Hilliard, Robert (Colleen Foran) Secrest, of Dublin, OH, Jonathan (Kimberly) Secrest, of Upper Arlington, Tyler, Connor and Mackenzie Secrest, all of Calif.; great grandchildren, Bridget and Margaret (Maggie) of Hilliard, Peyton and Gavin of Dublin, Karina and Carson of Upper Arlington. She is also survived by her twin brother Dr. Othell (Martha) Hand, of Columbus, GA and sister, Retha Henderson, of Columbus, MS. and sisters-in-law, Jean (Tracy) Treadaway and Mary Secrest; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Hand. Genell studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After graduation, she taught in many schools in the Chicago area. She was a longtime member of Mountview Baptist Church, the Women’s Golf Association of Worthington Hills Country Club and Fiddlesticks Country Club, Fort Myers, Florida. She was an accomplished golfer with two holes in one and was a past ladies club golf champion at Worthington Hills. She especially enjoyed her association with The Pin Money Investment Club, which she and ten friends organized in 1961. She helped organize the first Meals on Wheels in Baltimore, Maryland in 1952. She was past President of the Franklin County Mother’s March of Dimes Foundation; past member of the Foundation Service Board and Champagne Show Case, Columbus Toast Mistress Club; Cancer Crew Number One, and a a volunteer at the James Hospital Babe Zaharias Cancer Center.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 7, 2013 at Mountview Baptist Church, 2140 Fishinger Road with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. Entombment to follow at Union Cemetery.
