I was recently talking with a friend about people that go above and beyond for others. George and Sandra lanicca shared their home with me during a period of time in my life where I was in transition, going to nursing school, working as a waitress, and serving and the United States Navy Reserve in Columbus Ohio. Back then I was in my early twenties. George and Sandy became mentors for me and my life and in exchange for allowing me to live in their home, I would baby-sit for them from time to time. I remember their beautiful daughters and of course baby George with those big beautiful blue eyes that would melt anyone's heart! I was able to get to know him a little more by looking through his Facebook page and it comforts me to know that he loved music like I love music the same kind famous artists and we share that. George and Sandra you and your family have my deepest condolences. From this mother who also lost a child before it was their time I have come to the understanding to accept the change that took place in my heart that day I lost Emily. That change now give me a Heart full of compassion for all of humanity wherever there is pain and suffering. The toughest life lesson I ever learned. Judge not lest ye be judged and accept and welcome everyone you come across in your life path for every one of us has a story and we can make a difference in somebody else's life no matter how brief the encounter may be

My heart goes out to the LaNicca’s during this difficult time. George and Sandy, you guys were always there for me, especially in high school. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for raising an amazing man that touched peoples’ hearts. It was so easy for George to genuinely get along with others, and that is to your credit. 
     When I think back on all my memories with George, I smile. I think back to when I first met George in the summer of 2002. I met George, Ben Machado, and Brian Fisher at the UA Skate Park behind the Reed Road Fire Station. We all hit it off and that was the start of our dear friendship. 
     About a week before we started High School at Bishop Watterson, George invited a group of us over to his house for a pool party. That was the day I discovered George’s love of music. He brought his electric acoustic guitar outside and started playing for all of us. And I must say, there is something sexy about a man who can play an instrument, especially a guitar! And that was the thing about George, he was always impressing the ladies, and they (we) all gave him that attention! Haha Such a ladies’ man! Oh the fun times we all had at the LaNicca household!
     During our freshmen year of High School, George and I became close. He had invited me to join him, Brian Fisher, and Steve Cvetanovich to go trick-or-treating on Halloween. And living in UA, we just had to go by Jim Tressel’s house—we were all thinking we would get “king size” candy bars, because come on…it was Jim Tressel after all! But boy, were we wrong. We got little bite size candy bars and man were we disappointed! However, it always made us laugh and made for a good story. 
    Sophomore year was even better than freshmen year—go figure? This was when George, Ben, and Brian joined the BWHS Wrestling team—and they talked me into becoming a wrestling statistician. George’s argument to persuade me was “Hali, you are going to be around a bunch of hot guys! And what girl doesn’t want that?!?! Haha!” I’ll be honest, George did have a good point! Haha!  Anyways, George did a great job wrestling; I looked up his record and every Varsity win he had was a pin! I do remember how frustrated he would get because there were about 4 other guys that were all around the same weight class (160). And to top that off, the Wrestling team was a young team that consisted of mostly freshmen and sophomores. But regardless, there were some great, unforgettable memories made during the Wrestling team years. 
     During the summer, George, Ben, Brian, and I got tickets to the Dave Matthews Band concert at Polaris Amphitheater. George always enjoyed live music and over the years we would go to many Dave Matthews concerts. 
     Our Junior and Senior years came with a lot of changes and challenges. We were finally upperclassmen! This was the year George joined our carpool with Jon Bowers to school every morning. George drove a huge White Dodge Ram Pickup Truck, which he used for his lawn care business. George was featured in the Columbus Dispatch that year, which obviously made him a “hometown celebrity”. With his newfound status as a “hometown celebrity”, my dad had clipped the paper and asked George one morning before school to sign it. It was a keepsake that we still have to this day. 
      George and I had many classes together during our Junior Year. The two memorable classes were our Drama Class and 1st period Algebra III / Trig. George and I would always study for Algebra tests and do math homework together—even if that was in the morning on our way to school… And Mrs. Alkire totally knew what was going on. We always had the same answers on homework and tests… I mean,  we did sit right next to each other that entire year! You could say we had a “system” when it came to 1st Period Math.  And George always said “two brains are better than one!”  Haha! 
     Drama class was a blast too. We (George, Brian, and I) were in the play “Hippies, Hotties, Has-beens and Haters in Hell!” This play did cause a bit of a rivalry with the other Drama class because we we

     Words cannot begin to express our sorrow and deep sympathy for your loss.  George was such a good friend to Sam.  Every time we saw him he was happy.  We loved him and will truly miss his smiling face around our house.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

During our college years, George and I always remained in contact. When he came back to Columbus, we hung out more often and rekindled our friendship from high school. It was also when we decided to try and pursue a relationship together. This was a big change from what we were use to, and a completely different dynamic. It came with the best and worst of times. But overall, I learned so much from my relationship with him, and I take those lessons to heart.

George was truly a remarkable and unique individual. He touched so many peoples’ lives, and we are all better people because of him. He had the most amazing personality and had such an infectious laugh.  
 
For the 24 years you were on this earth, you absolutely made the most of them, and I am grateful for the time I did spend with you. You hold a special place in my heart, Horhay. I love you so much! Rest In Peace my friend.

I'm so very sorry to hear this -- I remember all the good times we had in Cub Scouts and sports at St. Andrew's.
