Glenn Damron, age 88, passed peacefully November 4, 2021, with his loved ones holding his hands. Glenn was born February 4, 1933, in Greasy Creek, KY. It was there he met Patty Maggard, who became his loving wife and partner for 63 years. Glenn was preceded in death by Patty (2016) and seven siblings, Faye, Eunice, Ted, Ray, Vernon, Ghomer and Elmer. Glenn was generous, devoted and loving to those dearest in his life including son Keith, daughter Trese Bueltmann, son-in-law Mark, and his remaining sibling Jeroid. He will always be remembered as the perfect “Papaw” to grandson Ian.
Glenn served our nation through the U.S. Air Force. During the Korean War he was stationed at Lockbourne AFB and served overseas in both England and Germany. Following his military service, he established his professional life in Central Ohio and raised his family in Grove City, Ohio. In work and life, Glenn and Patty were a team. She appreciated his entrepreneurial spirit, and was proud when Glenn started Data Entry Processing Service—a business that became so successful, Glenn was able to retire in his early 50s. Knowing his dad wasn’t one to sit still, Keith encouraged Glenn in his next endeavor to purchase and renovate rental properties—which he did for the next 35 years. And, again, Patty and Glenn worked side by side. When not on a ladder, you could find Glenn watching sports or front row and center at the theatrical performances of his only grandson of whom he was so proud.
In the past five years, Glenn became quite the traveler, cruising the Caribbean with Trese and Mark, hiking out West with his nephew Buddy, and enjoying sights from Hocking Hills to the Smokies, Washington, D.C. to Arizona. The older he got, the more he desired to stay active. Glenn enjoyed Sunday mornings at New Albany United Methodist Church where he attended his weekly men’s bible study. On other days you could find him taking Ian wherever he needed to go, exercising at the YMCA or making a home repair. Just a month before his passing, Glenn took part in a pickleball tournament, a pastime he enjoyed for the past four years.
Through life changes and circumstances, Glenn was always Glenn—unpretentious. If you knew him, then you knew his positive spirit, his outgoing personality, his extreme devotion to his family and his desire to be an enthusiastic participant in life. For years to come, there will always be stories about Glenn to be told. Because of his relationship with Christ, we look forward to the day we will see him again. Until then, he will be missed around the dinner table.
There will be a celebration of Glenn’s life on Saturday, November 13. Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. Service begins at 12 noon. Interment immediately following service at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 W. Broad Street, Galloway, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, do what Glenn would do: live your life to the fullest and extend yourself to others.
