

Gloria Mae (Wherry, Dougherty) Kinnaird passed away peacefully on July 9, 2017. She was an actress, oil painter, school teacher, psychologist, Family Feud contestant, champion race car driver, and life master bridge player. Gloria was a very generous, caring, and loving person who loved children and sharing time with her family. Gloria was born on 8/27/31 in Lebanon, TN to Robert James and Carrie Mae (Blair) Wherry. She was born 45 minutes after her twin sister, Carrie Jean (Wherry) Waters. When she was six years old, her family moved to Chapel Hill, NC. At the end of her junior year in high school, her family moved to Upper Arlington, Ohio. Gloria graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1949, received her Bachelor’s in Radio Speech/Theater from The Ohio State University(OSU) in 1953, her Master’s in Education Psychology from OSU in 1963, and her Doctorate in Education Psychology from OSU in 1973. During her undergraduate years Gloria was very active in little theater and theater in the round. She worked as Continuity Director at WTVN, and as a school teacher and school psychologist for Columbus Public Schools. Gloria was blessed with a wonderful family, including her parents, twin sister, and brother, John Richard (Patricia) Wherry, all who preceded her in death. She is survived by brother Robert James (Barbara) Wherry, twin sons, Robert Bruce (Toni) Dougherty and Douglas Blair (Mary) Dougherty, grandchildren Krista Riordan, Michael Dougherty, Allison (Dougherty) O’Brien, Brendan Dougherty and Andrew Dougherty, great grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas Riordan, Brayden Dougherty, Cooper O’Brien, and Olivia Dougherty, and many nieces and nephews. Schoedinger Northwest Chapel at 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221 will host visitation from 3 – 6 PM on Sunday, 7/16. A service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, 7/17, followed by a luncheon, all at Schoedinger’s. Anyone who would like to attend the graveside service at Glen Rest Memorial Estates following the luncheon is invited. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
