

Gretchen Ann Haas was born on August 22, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA; she died on May 20 at Kobacker House in Columbus. She was the daughter of Truth Guthrie Haas and Gideon Haas. The family later moved to Dennison, OH and then to Columbus. She graduated from North High School in 1953 and was a member of the North High Women's Alumni Group and a member of the North High Reunion Planning Committee. A loyal Polar Bear. After graduation from Ohio State University, she taught in elementary grades and worked as a reading teacher for Columbus Public Schools from which she retired. As a member of Mu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, she served as president and worked on fund raising projects for several charitable organizations. Although she had traveled in Europe her trip of a lifetime was the OSU Tour of China. For several years she enjoyed exercising and chatting over coffee with her buddies at the McConnell Heart Health Center. She is survived by brother and sister-in -law, Gilbert and Sue Haas of Colchester, Connecticut; a niece, Amy (Dan) Smith of Colchester; and a nephew, Michael (Maricel) Haas of Chandler, AZ.

This past year she has been under care of Hospice at Whetstone Care Center Assisted Living. The family wishes to thank the kind and loving staff at Whetstone and Hospice; Gretchen said they were great. The family wishes also to thank the gentle and caring staff at Kobacker for their handling of her final hours. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Capital Humane Society (she never met a dog she did not like), the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice. Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
