

Helen Jeanette (Westerdahl) Skon, 94, passed away on December 8, 2018 in Dublin, Ohio after a long fight with dementia. She was born on January 3, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Dwight and Helen (Thorstenberg) Westerdahl. She attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota where she studied business. She married Paul Skon on September 9, 1947. She was a long-time resident of Newark, Ohio and spent many years as a snow-bird between Ohio and Ft. Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and good friend James Orwig. She is survived by her children, Joan (Vince) Stranges, Jim (Jane) Skon, Sara (Lance) DeBenedictis; her grandchildren Christina (Derek) Foust, Stephanie (RJ) Swindaman, Meredith Stranges, Joel (Christina) Skon, Kati Skon, Luke Skon, Heidi DeBenedictis and Elizabeth DeBenedictis; great grandson Robert Swindaman IV; brothers Bud (Pat) Westerdahl and John Westerdahl; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom, "granny" and Jeanette loved life and loved Jesus. She always enjoyed being with people and she brightened our lives with her cheerful smile and the joy that she had being around us. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 13, from 5 to 8 pm at the Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, 6699 N High St, Worthington, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 14, at 11 am at the Schoedinger location followed by interment at Union Cemetery.The family would like to thank Brookdale Muirfield and Brookdale Hospice for their care.
