Harley Haag, 87, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2012 following a brief illness. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 12th, 1924 to Frank Haag and Minnie (Stroud) Haag. Harley grew up during the Great Depression on a farm on State Route 665 west of Darbydale, Ohio and graduated from Grove City High School. He and his family spent most of his working life in Grove City. He was an award-winning truck driver who drove millions of miles without causing an accident. He delivered cattle for Sam Coil, Gasoline for Certified Oil, Beer for Jay’s Distributing and commercial freight for North American Van Lines. He was an avid hunter, loved to go camping with his family and was involved in early flat-track motorcycle races in central Ohio with his friend Dick Klamfoth. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 44 years, Sarah Bell Haag and his brothers-in-law Fred Stage, Ned Willison, Gary Steele and Richard Ayle. Harley is survived by his son John (Sean Cress) Haag, his Brothers Frank Haag (Mary), Gary Haag (Doris Ann), sisters Rosemary (Russ) Walls, Doris Jean Willison, Grace Stage and Janet (Jack) Dalbert. Harley also had numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Many of their pictures – and some of the kids, too - traveled the country in his North American truck with Harley and Sarah Bell as they both thought of them and treated them like their own grandchildren. Harley also leaves behind his long-time companion Wilma Jean Hacker, her children Jimmy and Janie and several grandchildren who he loved dearly. A celebration of his life will be held for friends and family at the Grove City Community Club from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m May 5, 2012. Spaghetti, tossed salad and garlic bread will be provided by John & Sean. Chips, dips, appetizers and dessert dishes from guests would be most-welcome, but by no means required.
