

HERBERT CARL ABRAMS, age 95, passed away June 18, 2013. Survived by his beloved wife Ruth and son Terry; nieces Ellen Stross and Terry Koenegsberg; great niece Wendy Katzman and great nephew Jonathan Stross. Preceded in death by sister Beatrice C. Schwartz and brother Bertram C. Abrams.
He served in the military as a glider instructor, flight engineer, and navigator during WWII. He was associated with Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus Laboratories for 17 years. In retirement, he built a Solitaire self-launching sailplane earning two world class awards in the 1990 EAA International Convention; the Lindy Trophy in the plans-built category, and the Stan Dzik Memorial Award for "Outstanding Design Contribution".
He was a life member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association and a life member of Perfection-Masonic Lodge #530.
Graveside services and interment at Green Lawn Cemetery 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 with Rabbi Rick Kellner officiating.
