Ida Marie Reid, age 94, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family, and passed on to her Heavenly reward on May 24, 2014. She was born March 29, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Arthur and Minnie Battelle. Ida lived a life full of sadness and joy. Her mother was tragically taken from her when she was 7 years old. She moved from an orphanage to several foster homes and was often separated from most of her many siblings. As a teenager she was in the care of two good families, the Ross's and the Smith's. Not long after this she met the one true love of her life, Gontran A. Reid. After raising 3 children she worked at the toy department of Lazarus and was Santa's helper at Christmas. She also worked over 40 years at Scioto Downs and Beulah Park. She was an avid card player, enjoyed playing Bingo and loved betting on the horses. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gontran A. Reid; 9 brothers and sisters: Helen, Edward, Diane, Charles, Della, Edna, Louise, James and Jeanette; daughter-in-law Sue Shanelec Reid, and best friend Viola Wells She is survived by her children, Dennis (Carol) Reid, Susan Reid Mullins (companion Doug Hoobler) and Thomas (Patti) Reid; 8 grandchildren, Lisa Owens, Michelle (Todd) Mates, Damean Mullins, Anna (Brian) Bayes, Anthony (Gracie) Reid, Elizabeth Reid (Chris Fritz), Katie Reid, Kristen Reid; 3 great-grandchildren John Michael Owens, Haley Riddlebarger (Jimmy Dillon), Christian Reid Bayes and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Adrian Loos and Khloe Dillon; dear friend Marge Thomas; many good friends over the years from Grovewood Place and White Castle, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family will welcome friends 5-8pm Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Schoedinger Grove City Chapel, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10am Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3730 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123; interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
