

Iola “Tommie” Lanaman, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Tommie was born on July 22, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Stuart and Catharine (Harriman) Tomlinson. Also preceding in death by her loving husband of 66 years Frank Lanaman; siblings George Tomlinson and Gloria Bulger. Tommie was a 1944 graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and would have celebrated her 80th high school reunion this year. She attended Stephens College.
Married to her high school sweetheart during WWII, Frank and Tommie lived in San Diego,CA, Cedar Falls, NJ, Cincinnati,OH, Arlington Heights, IL, Bloomfield Hills, MI, the Atlanta, GA area, Venice FL and finally in Upper Arlington, OH. Tommie was always active in her church, serving and chairing many groups in several churches. She especially enjoyed her Couples Group (PYADS) in Cincinnati.
Tommie worked at Cincinnati Country Day School, Cranford Country Day School and as a real estate agent/broker. While living in Atlanta, Frank and Tommie bought and renovated houses, at one point owning 11 houses which set them up for an early retirement in Venice, Florida.
Together they enjoyed entertaining and vacationing on their boat, the GinRicky, on the Ohio River, Lake Michigan, and the Gulf of Mexico. She was active in the Venice Yacht Club, chairing the First Mates Group. Tommie and Frank loved traveling and have visited all 50 states and cruised across the globe.
Tommie was generous with her time and talents, always volunteering where she was needed. Good with numbers, she volunteered to help Seniors with their taxes for many years. She was head of the board at the Jacaranda Trace Retirement Community in Florida. She loved to read, knit, and especially sew, making many outfits for herself and family.
Tommie will be deeply missed by her loving daughter Virginia Barney; son Rick (Kate) Lannamann; grandchildren Joy (Neal) Barney O’Brien, Brad (Shirley) Barney, Tom (Mari) Lannamann, Ned Lannamann, Jack (Kelli) Lannamann, Liz (John Warner) Scheffler and Annie Scheffler; great-grandchildren Lilly Barney, Juliet Lannamann, Bradley Lannamann, Benji Lannamann and Harper Warner.
There will be a private celebration of her life when the family can gather.
