He attended Hocking Technical College where he received a degree in Forestry. He worked for the DNR in Maine but returned home to be with family and worked for the DNR in Ohio. He worked for Mad River Outfitters a job he really liked retiring to be able to enjoy the finer things in life like fishing exploring nature and his family.
As a young boy Little Jim (as he was known to family and friends) and his brother Larry raced Quarter Midgets which were built by their dad. They were both very successful and brought home many trophies.
When he wasn’t working you could bet he was out fishing and hunting. He was very knowledgeable about all things to do with nature, sharing that knowledge with everyone that he could. He enjoyed sharing his love of nature with his children and grandchildren and taking them camping and fishing whenever possible. If you had a question and he didn’t have the answer, he would find it in the vast assortment of books and magazines he had.
Little Jim loved old movies (westerns were his favorite) and tv shows. He enjoyed reading and music from the 40’s and 50’s. He was a great Harmonica player and whistler, a talent he learned from his dad. He also sang in a men's choir.
He will also be remembered by all for his great sense of humor, caring heart and his generous nature.
A special thanks to the Doctors and nurses at Riverside Methodist Hospital and Ohio Health Hospice for the care he received in his final days.
