1953-2017
James "Jim" Marc Brakemeyer, beloved and loving husband, father, and friend, was sent to Heaven peacefully, from his home in Westerville, OH, the morning of August 5, 2017, after a fight well fought against cancer. Jim was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 7, 1953, where he lived for over 40 years before moving to several states with his wife and daughter, most recently Ohio. He was a graduate of Ritenour High School, the University of Missouri, and Saint Louis University, and also passed the CPA exam on his first try! His faith in the Lord, thoughtfulness, and knack for humor will be fondly remembered by many. Jim was a meticulous planner, Christmas-letter-writing connoisseur, and houseplant master, who also embraced retirement from a career in fundraising, by volunteering at the James Cancer Hospital and Worthington Christian Village. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved parents Lee and Ruth Brakemeyer. He is currently planning a place in Heaven for his loving wife of 39 years, and caretaker, Barbara Gail Brakemeyer (Straughan), and daughter and caretaker, Bethany Brakemeyer. Jim also leaves behind his brother, Randall (Catherine) Brakemeyer; niece Megan (Mike) O'Brien; nephew Ryan (Theresa) Brakemeyer; and grandnieces and grandnephews Katie, Evie, Jason, Alex, and Lee. Though not a "cat man," he also leaves behind two spoiled kitties, Peetie and Sweetie. Family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Thursday, August 10th at Worthington Christian Church, 8145 N High St. Columbus, OH 43235, with service to follow. His interment will take place at St. Paul's UCC Cemetery in Marthasville, MO, on Saturday, August 12th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Worthington Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd. Columbus, OH 43235 SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL is assisting the family.
