Born in Upper Arlington, Ohio, Jim graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1972 and later attended Hillsdale College, graduating in 1976. Jim’s outgoing nature, steady character, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him perfectly suited for a career in residential real estate. As a third-generation Edwards with strong local roots, he built lasting relationships throughout the community. Over the years, he enjoyed award-winning success with Sorrell, ReMax, King Thompson, Keller Williams Classic Properties, and Berkshire Hathaway Professional Services. Together, Jim and his wife, Betsy, also helped reshape neighborhoods throughout Upper Arlington by remodeling/building more than 30 homes.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nancy Edwards Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy Edwards, and their daughter, Madison Edwards; his children, Curtis Edwards, Kyle (Christine) Edwards, and Taylor (Matt) Cherry; his former wife, Sherri Donnell; and his grandchildren, Quinn and Levi Edwards, and Annabel and Corbin Cherry; and brother, David Edwards Jr.
Jim was deeply devoted to his family and especially cherished being a dad. Coaching his four children in whichever sports they pursued was one of the great joys at the center of his life. In his younger years, he loved slalom skiing and was talented enough to throw down a barefoot run from time to time. He also treasured multi-generational adventures with his father and children - whether golfing, fly fishing, or rafting together - creating memories and traditions that spanned generations.
Beyond his work and family life, Jim was invested in his community. As a founding member and first president, he was instrumental in establishing the Tri-Village Rotary in 1995, guided by the motto “Service Above Self.”
Jim lived fully and brought an energy that lifted everyone around him. His impact will be felt forever in the lives of his family, friends, and community.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 3, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. No formal funeral service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Tri-Village Rotary Club via Venmo: @TriVillage-Rotary.
