Lt. Col. (retired) James D. McGeorge died on July 18, 2018, at Riverside Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Donald H. and Sarah Metcalf McGeorge, Jim graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1962, where he was a state champion track star and from The Ohio State University in 1966, where he was an Ohio State letterman.
Jim's broad smile and easy-going way will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He maintained close friendships from his school days in Shaker Heights, from his membership in Sigma Chi at Ohio State, and from his time in the Navy. To the end of his life, he was in constant contact with his friends from the Ohio Air National Guard where he served in the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing and the 121st Air Refueling Wing capping a distinguished 28-year career of service; with friends from his sales careers with Xerox and with Shaffer Distributing; his neighbors in Upper Arlington; and from the years he spent vacationing at his beloved lake house in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.
Jim extended his love of flying beyond his retirement from the Guard to ownership of his own airplanes. He loved music - from classical to rock, from country to jazz - and golf and enjoyed membership in golf clubs here and in New York. At the time of his death, Jim was challenged by Parkinson's disease, but with the support of his medical team and Friendship at Home of Dublin, Ohio, only recently could be seen walking his neighborhood, accompanied by his faithful West Highland White Terriers.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Constance W. McGeorge; by his son John W. McGeorge, his daughter-in-law, Christy McGeorge; granddaughters, Madelyn and Amelia McGeorge; niece Sarah McGeorge (daughter of his brother William McGeorge, deceased), and many extended relatives and countless friends.
