

James Michael Oien, age 55, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010, after battling brain cancer for a year and a half. Jim was born on February 18, 1955, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He attended high school in Bloomington, Illinois, and graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He worked for more than 20 years for Limited Brands, with his last position as Senior Vice President at Bath & Body Works. Jim was a member of New Albany Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully as an Elder. He played a leading role in growing the church, in efforts to build a permanent church home, and was deeply involved in NAPC’s ministry to Northern Uganda. Jim was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debbie Oien; parents, Carroll and Patricia Oien; children, Jason (Nicole) Oien, Jenny (Eric) Hemmelgarn, and Natalie Oien; granddaughter, Kayla Oien; sisters, Sally Oien (Zygi Goldenberg), and Cindy (Harry) Lampe; brothers, Steve (Julie) Oien, and Chuck Oien; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin Granville Road, New Albany, with Pastor David Milroy officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s name can be made to New Albany Presbyterian Church, designated to either the Building Fund, or to their sister church in Uganda, Africa, Gulu Community Church; or to The James Cancer Hospital.
