

James E. Stewart, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015. Affectionately known as "Skinner", he was born November 17, 1929 in Kimball, WV to the late John and Viola Martin Stewart. In his younger years, James worked over 10 years in the mines of McDowell County, WV. After moving to Columbus, OH, James worked more than 30 years as a custodian at the OSU Medical Center, followed by 23 dedicated years at The Limited before retiring in 2012. James served the US Army and was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict. James was predeceased by his wife Irene Stewart; parents John and Viola Stewart; grandparents Nick and Sallie Martin; daughter Elizabeth "Pollie" Bolden; siblings Maggie Steward Tyree, Manuel Steward, Helen Steward McGhee, Eleanor "Nora" Steward Edwards, John Steward, Melvin Steward and Milford Steward. He is survived by sons James E. (Linda) Stewart, Jr., and Wayne (Kathy) Carter of Columbus, OH, and Turhan Carter of Welch, WV; daughters Ninette (James) Ward of RoderfIeld WV, Nina Edmond of Rochester, NY, and Delcina (Roger) Henry of Columbus, OH; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren great-great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, including Hilda "Darleen" Belcher of Columbus, OH; aunt Dorothy Martin of Forest, VA; sister-in-law Cleo Steward, and cousin Mattie Belle Dillard of Columbus, OH; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. James will be sadly missed by many close friends from the OSU Medical Center, and The Limited, including Jackie (John) Hoskins, and very special friend Janice (Dale) Darnell. Family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Joseph Woods officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The family sincerely thanks Nurse Paulina and the dedicated staff of Heartland Hospice Services for the dedicated care provided to our loved one. Donations in his name may be made to the charities he was most passionate, Southern Poverty Law Center; Mid Ohio Food Bank; Nationwide Children's Hospital or Pelotonia.
