

Jim was born July 27, 1925 in Moline, IL to the late Jay Chudy and Marie Montgomery Arnold and spent his youth in Milwaukee and in Southern California. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 during World War II and served in both the Mediterranean and Pacific theatres.
After the war, Jim went to college on the GI bill and married Belva Worrell. He rejoined the Navy as an officer, served on active duty during the Korean conflict, and remained in the active reserve until 1990 when he retired as a Captain.
After the Korean conflict ended, Jim returned to school and earned a Ph.D. fro U.C. Berkeley. He worked as a human factors specialist, college professor, and clinical psychologist for nearly 40 years, most of this in Orange Country, CA where he retired in 2004.
Jim and Belva had four children, James II, Raymond, Katrina, and Kasandra, before they divorced. In 1975, Jim married Darlene Beggerly with whom he had two children, Clayton and Anna.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Tschudy and Thomas Chudy. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two brothers, Jack Chudy and Tim Chudy; children, James J. Tschudy II, Raymond Von Tschudy, Katrina Tschudy, Kasandra Shepherd; Clayton James Tschudy, and Anna-Marie Tschudy; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm Sunday, October 24, 2010 at North Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1574 Franklin St., Lewis Center, OH. Services will be planned for a later date in San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm Friday, November 12, 2010 at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front St., San Diego, CA, 92103. Full military honors conducted by the United States Navy.
