Jane Claire (McFeely) Woodward passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 11 at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Hilliard. She was born on February 9, 1926 to Miriam Jane Mardis McFeely and Paul Hogue McFeely in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Faith, family and friendship were the cornerstones of her life. Jane graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1943. She attended Muskingum College, graduating in 1947 with a B.S. degree in Spanish and a minor in Political Science. Jane worked for several years teaching English and Special Education in New London, Ohio. Jane met the love of her life, Harold Boyd “Woody” Woodward in middle school. They wed in Mount Vernon on June 29, 1946. Together they had four beautiful daughters. For over 25 years Jane and Woody dedicated their lives to volunteering with Girl Scouts. Jane’s selfless devotion to others was also evident in her many friendships and keen ability to listen and counsel thoughtfully. Jane was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, and most enjoyed her relationships with family and friends. She had a fabulous sense of humor and was very creative with her gift giving. Jane’s favorite things were chocolate, penguins, and all things gardening. She was a staunch Republican and enjoyed having intellectual political debates. You could always find her cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes or configuring her bracket during March Madness. She was an avid reader and liked to spend her time doing Sudoku puzzles. Anyone who knew Jane understands her lasting love of music, dance and holidays. Jane relished her role as the “Costume Lady” during her children’s recitals. Jane is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Earl) Hanley of Ticonderoga, NY, Leslie (Ron) Seibel of Austin, TX, Ellen Meranda of Powell, OH, and Laurel (Norm) Straker of Powell, OH; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; her cousins Perry (Louise) Trinkner of Mount Vernon, OH, Sally (Jerry) Garst of TX and Margie (Jerry) Helfrich of AZ; two nieces and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Woody and sister, Joan Ekedahl. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and friends at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Hilliard and express our deep appreciation to VITAS Hospice staff and nurses for their loving care.
